-The cabins-
Our cabins are designed, build and decorated with a strict less-is-more philosophy. Only the very essentials necessary for a person to feel good is provided: A comfortable king-size bed with a merino wool mattress, cashmere blankets, hot water bottles and much more for cold nights.
Point heat - sleeping closer to nature
The cabins are not heated but the beds are, for a good, natural and healthy sleep. The principle is called point heat and it works exactly like when we put our babies to sleep outside. At the same time it’s the most sustainable way to stay warm. Read more about point heat on our blog.
In our cabins, the surrounding nature is the star of the show. The cabins are built in local natural materials only; local slow-growing fir, wood shavings as insulation, and large glass windows to incorporate the surrounding forest and the stars in the sky.
Compost toilets and all-natural toiletries
All cabins have their own outdoor compost toilet made in local larch, a type of wood that smells nice. No water is used for the toilets, whereas the sinks run on lake water. All water go straight back to the forest, and therefore we provide all-natural toiletries that we kindly ask guests to use instead of their own throughout the stay.
Once in a while, the compost toilets are emptied and - after a certain process - used as nutrients for non-edible parts of our garden operations. Keeping the nutrients where they are consumed is an important part of the permaculture/holistic living philosophy. As a guest you - literally - contribute to this by leaving with us what your body doesn’t need. Isn’t it beautiful? :-)
Showers running on lakewater
By the lake we have outdoor showers running on lake water and heated with sawdust, while an indoor shower is available for cold days.
Things that are good to know:
We provide all-natural soaps, shampoo, conditioner and mosquito oil that we kindly ask you to use instead of your own toiletries during your stay. Body oils, toothpaste and more are for sale on site. This is important as all water is recycled back to nature, and as we want the forest to be a poison-free zone.
There are usually not that many mosquitos in the forest, but if you are allergic bringing anti-histamine is a good idea.
In the summertime, it doesn’t get really dark in the forest, whereas September till early spring can have very dark nights around new moon. We mainly use candles for lighting, but bringing your own flashlight is a good idea.
The cabins do not have electricity. Charging phones etc. is possible at the kitchens.
