-bookings for winter season are now open-
Bookings for summer season 2025 are expected to be released in November 2024 - you can sign up for our newsletter below for a heads up. You can already now read more about what we offer from April here.
-welcome to the woods-
“Stedsans is an off-the-grid forest resort in Southern Sweden (2 hours from Gothenburg/Malmö and less than 3 hours from Copenhagen) with a regenerative farm, a restaurant that goes deep into the flavors of our seasonal ingredients, 16 simple wooden cabins, campsite, and a floating sauna on the lake. We want our guests to feel the healing powers of nature on mind, body and soul, and to show that luxury, true sustainability and well-being go hand in hand."
Watch the movie below to see how we work.
-The Stedsans vision-
Stedsans is Danish for ‘sense of place/direction’. We interpret it as something with terroir, using our senses and which direction we need to go as a society. It is founded by Mette Helbæk and Flemming Schiøtt Hansen, two Danish chefs from Copenhagen who felt the call of the wild. We love spending time in nature, we love beautiful, simple things, and we love food!
We created Stedsans as our own playground where we explore natural food, design, and lifestyle and share what we find with our guests. We believe that creating a way of living that respects all forms of life is possible, and we think that connecting with our own inner nature and the natural world surrounding us is a key element in this process. Stedsans is our take on a model for a lifestyle more in sync with the natural rhythms. By visiting us, you support this work, and hopefully you get inspiration for ways to apply our ideas in your own daily life.
-Plan your visit-
In the wintertime we are open Fridays and Saturdays. 1 night gives you a peek into our world while a 2 night-stay allows you to fully calibrate to the forest lifestyle. A stay always includes sauna, dinner, drinks and breakfast, and if you stay 2 nights we also offer a complementary simple lunch/picnic basket.
From summer 2025 we will be open 7 days per week. Bookings are not open yet, but you can read a little more HERE.
You spend the night in one of our simple wooden cabins set with everything needed for a good night’s sleep. You are also welcome to bring your own tent or camper van - read more about this option below.
All our food is based on the same principles: Homegrown and/or from local small scale producers, homemade, fresh, vibrant, poison-free and with as much from the wild as possible. We cook outside over fire, all year round and in all weather conditions - because we love to feel nature all around us, and believe this love can be felt in our food.
-things that are good to know before you book-
Stedsans is a little bit wild, off-the-grid and no luxury retreat in the traditional sense - just the way we (and our many regular guests) like it! It’s a work in progress and we work under whatever conditions nature offers on a given day - whether it be snow, rain or full, delicious sun.
Our cabins follow a strict less-is-more philosophy and only the beds are heated, not the room. Read more about our cabins here.
Our background is in fine-dining, but our food is honest and simple - what you see is what you get and what you don’t see but may feel is decades of studies and work around how human beings are designed to eat for a healthy body and planet. We decide what you will eat and take the freedom to change our minds about the menu according to what nature offers. Of course we will take into consideration any dietary requests to make sure everyone feels well-nourished and taken care of.
NB: Our kitchen and cooking style is not set up for cooking fully vegan meals while vegetarian/pescetarian options are always offered.
Dinners take place in our glass house in the middle of the forest, surrounded by trees and whatever scenery nature brings any given day. All meals are enjoyed family-style with all guests eating together.
And no! We do not have many mosquitos, luckily.
-Stay for 1 or 2 nights-
- Stay the whole week -
During winter season you can book our little house ‘the forest cottage’ for 1 day or longer stays. During the weekdays you cook your own meals while dinners and breakfast can be added on weekends.
-camping/sauna + dinner without staying over-
All year round you can bring your own camping equipment, and just pay for the dinner. We have a campsite with a shared toilet, and you can use all the other shared facilities, too: Sauna, showers, hangout areas etc.
The same is the case for you who have a place to stay nearby and just want to join us for dinner.
-Where are we located?-
We are located by a tiny village called Bohult near Hyltebruk in Southern Halland, Sweden.
Halland is a very special place. Located less than 2 h from Gothenburg and 2 h 45 m from central Copenhagen and still a true wilderness with endless forests and huge rivers. It is not uncommon to see moose, wild boars, cranes, or big eagles in the area.
